Things introverts do that society finds weird, but aren’t, are very popular topics in society nowadays.
It is very well known that introverts prefer their own company the most. Social events scare them and many of them have social anxiety as well.
But let’s see what could be those so called-weird things these shy people do. It’s kind of devastating that society judges people who like spending time alone the most. Is it really such a necessity to be in constant social interaction nowadays?
But just in case, let’s see what puts unnecessary pressure on introverted people in society. Maybe that way we’ll know what to do the next time we’re out and how to push ourselves to be “less weird.”
In the text below we will talk about things that introverts do and might look weird to society. But truth be told, society is just extroverts and they can be judgy sometimes, right? Well, let’s see what they’re basing their judgments on.
7 Things Introverts Do That May Seem Weird To Others But Are Not
Oh, the overwhelming pressure of society. This pressure goes so far that we have to think about what we do, say, and even think, basically all the time nowadays.
Does it seem to you that we cannot fully surrender to our true personality? We always have to be slaves to some ideals or someone’s ideas, and in the end, we push ourselves to the limit until we break.
Because of the things that introverts like and prefer, which we will list below, society thinks that introverts are unusual and strange. I would also be interested if I were you. Let’s take a look at them.
1. Cancel/ed Plans-No Plans = No Problem
While for extroverts a canceled plan will be a nightmare, for introverts it will be a celebration. Although they originally wanted to go out, they will be relieved to learn that those plans have been canceled.
Canceled plans in them reduce the feeling of nervousness, anxiety, and all other negative feelings.
Before going out, introverts also prepare emotionally for crowds and conversations with people, so a canceled plan will deprive them of all that.
Why is that actually the case? At the end of the day, although they sometimes crave company, they would rather spend time alone.
For introverts, nothing can replace time in front of the screen while watching their favorite series in their pajamas.
2. They Prefer Phone Calls Over Video Calls
You’ve probably heard of jobs for introverts with anxiety. And now imagine that some introverts who actually have anxiety don’t work in those fields.
They are forced and they must be with people all day long. Constant interactions, meetings, conversations, and speaking until they’re drained.
Can you really blame such a person for choosing a phone call over a video call with you? They’ve had enough of that day and they just can’t be around people anymore. be happy and thankful if they pick up the phone anyhow.
3. Most Introverts Don’t Leave Their Flat Until Their Neighbor Is Gone
I know many introvert friends who do this and admit to doing it. There is nothing strange about this. Most days I’ll do the same to avoid the one whose name we don’t mention that isn’t Voldemort.
Some people simply tire us out after talking for a minute on the stairs, and we can’t do anything about it.
This adds another important reason for introverts to avoid them: chit-chat. We know that chit-chatting is not the best skill for introverts, so this will make them nervous enough.
It’s much better to avoid such a meeting than to pretend and feel drained after that. Judge me if you want, but we all do it I’m sure. We all have that one neighbor, I know that very well.
4. Introverts Would Rather Spend Time With Their Pets Over People
It may seem strange, but it is not at all and no more than normal. Our pets don’t judge us. They don’t question us after a long day, they don’t drain our energy and they just love us.
After a long day, sometimes we just need the purring sound of our kitty, her paws on her stomach, or the excited jumping of our puppy. This is often chosen by other personality types as well precisely because of the stated reasons.
5. Intovert’s Bathroom Use Alert
Surely no one needs to go to the toilet every 10 minutes. Except maybe people with a small urinary bladder. But introverts will do this very often at parties and gatherings.
Do you know which famous person admitted that this really works? We all know her as a great talk show host who seems to ooze confidence.
Oprah has repeatedly admitted that she does this out of a need for peace and rest for even a few minutes. In those few minutes alone, introverts will “come to their senses” and after a few breaths, they will be ready to continue socializing.
6. Introverts Avoid Chatty Salespeople In A Wide Circle
We all know talkative sellers who will push us for the product at any price. “But you must have this garment, you must use this perfume.”
I bought both yesterday, thank you, it doesn’t work with these sellers. Salespeople don’t care how you feel, they are simply trying to sell a product.
Introverts don’t know how to behave in these situations. They will rarely know how to say a firm no, so they will either buy a completely unnecessary thing or appear awkward.
To them, forcing the conversation causes extreme discomfort, so those with anxiety may even have a small panic attack after the conversation is over.
7. Introverts Hate”Happy Birthday” Song In Public Places
Happpppyyy birthday to you, happy birthday deeear…Oh not again, just not the happy birthday song. Public birthday celebrations are one of the biggest fears of an introvert.
Avoid singing the song in public at all costs. They wil feel awkward and this might make their whole night much worse.
A few people sing you a happy birthday song while the rest of the restaurant stares at you. Ouch, terror, nervousness, knot in the stomach, discomfort, and a bunch of other unpleasant emotions.
Introverts will rather spend their birthdays with close friends in their homes. Avoid big surprise parties for social introverts and anxious introverts especially.
You might think that even introverts want a nice birthday party. However, they’d rather have another small talk or an interesting conversation with friends over dinner.
Wrapping Up
I was quite convinced that nothing could be unusual anymore. We have stepped into an age where everything changes rapidly, people value some new other things and everything is different.
However, today we talked about 7 things introverts do that society finds weird, but aren’t It seems that society can still, for some things, find justification to be a bit judgmental. Because that’s how it goes in our society. You can be yourself, but be yourself like this.
You can be natural, but to be natural try this, and so on. Why do introverts love being alone then, I don’t think we need to ask ourselves this. The real question might be, how don’t we all, eventually, don’t prefer more alone time?
Thanks for reading us, see you soon! Try not to be too weird in the meantime.
